Public Health BRONCHITIS AND THE ACIDITY OF URBAN PRECIPITATION

چکیده
THE incidence of bronchitis is uncommonly high in Britain, especially in urban areas during winter; and it has been conjectured that air pollution is at least partly responsible. In this paper I report a correlation between bronchitis mortality and the acidity of urban precipitation. The mortality-rates for bronchitis were calculated from the Registrar General’s annual statistical reviews for the whole populations of fifty-three county and Metropolitan boroughs in England, Scotland, and Wales over the five-year period 1950-54, and plotted on scatter diagrams versus air-pollution data from single stations and periods within these boroughs. These latter data were extracted from table 8 of the 27th report of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research on the investigation of atmospheric pollution (1955), which provides figures for the monthly atmospheric deposit of tar, ash, other combustible matter and sulphate per unit area in

Public reporting as a prescriptions quality improvement measure in primary care settings in China: variations in effects associated with diagnoses
The overprovision and irrational use of antibiotics and injections are a major public health concern. Public reporting has been adopted as a strategy to encourage good prescribing practices. This study evaluated the effects of public reporting on antibiotic and injection prescriptions in urban and rural primary care settings in Hubei province, China. A randomized control trial was conducted, wi...

We examined the respiratory health effects of exposure to acidic air pollution among 13,369 white children 8 to 12 years old from 24 communities in the United States and Canada between 1988 and 1991. Each child's parent or guardian completed a questionnaire. Air quality and meteorology were measured in each community for a 1-year period. We used a two-stage logistic regression model to analyze ...

Background & objectives:AirQ software proved to be a valid and reliable tool to estimate the potential short term effects of air pollution. In this study the AirQ2.2.3 model was used to evaluate adverse health effects caused by nitrogen dioxide(NO2) exposure in Ahvaz during 2009. Materials & Methods:The AirQ,developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to predi...
متن کاملAssessing the health benefits of urban air pollution reductions associated with climate change mitigation (2000-2020): Santiago, São Paulo, México City, and New York City.
To investigate the potential local health benefits of adopting greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation policies, we develop scenarios of GHG mitigation for México City, México; Santiago, Chile; São Paulo, Brazil; and New York, New York, USA using air pollution health impact factors appropriate to each city. We estimate that the adoption of readily available technologies to lessen fossil fuel emissions ...
